Submission Guidleines

We respectfully request that authors carefully read and follow all guidelines prior to submitting. We would much rather say yes than no to writers, and following our guidelines makes it easier for us to say yes.

The Copperfield Review is a quarterly journal published in October, January, April, and July. Authors submitting their work can expect to hear from us regarding the status of their work only during those months. We accept submissions 365 days a year.

We accept previously published submissions. We acquire one-time rights. We do not charge reading fees. At this time The Copperfield Review is not a paying market.

We do not accept submissions sent as file attachments. All submissions sent as file attachments will be deleted unread. Submissions must be pasted into the body of an e-mail and sent to info(at)copperfieldreview(dot)com. We will only consider submissions received via e-mail. Editors will not respond to submissions sent to their personal e-mail addresses. Please note that we have very tight spam controls on our e-mail box, and submissions that do not adhere to our guidelines are likely to be sent to the spam folder.

We reserve the right to edit the work we publish for length, content, and clarity.

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we may not receive every submission sent to us. Authors should hear from us regarding the status of their work by the end of the month in which the next edition will be published. For example, those submitting their work for the Autumn 2010 edition will hear from us by the end of October. If authors have not heard yes or no from us by November, then an e-mail inquiring after the status of the work is welcome. All inquiries should be sent to info(at)copperfieldreview(dot)com.

Authors must notify us immediately if they need to remove their submission or if their work is accepted elsewhere while it is under consideration at The Copperfield Review. We are unable to consider future submissions from authors who do not respect this request.

Authors, please do not submit a new version of your story or a new bio after we have accepted your work. We are a small staff and do not have time to format a new version of your story after we have already formatted your original submission. Submit only the version you want to see online.

We are unable to consider submissions that do not follow our guidelines.

Reviews

The Copperfield Review now accepts book reviews in all genres for fiction or nonfiction. It is not necessary to query prior to submitting book reviews. Book reviews must be submitted with book review information:

  1. title of novel
  2. author of novel
  3. number of pages
  4. publisher
  5. how many quills awarded (on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being best)
  6. a brief bio of the reviewer, written in third person, must also be included
  7. the reviewer's e-mail address must be typed within the text of the e-mail

Authors, agents, or publishers who wish to have their books reviewed should contact us at info(at)copperfieldreview(dot)com for further information. We are still accepting history-related fiction and nonfiction.

If you are sending a book to us for review, please do not send it requiring a signature. There is not always someone available to sign for your package.

10th Anniversary Edition

The Winter 2011 edition of The Copperfield Review will be our 10th anniversary issue. If you would like to have your work considered for our 10th anniversary edition, please submit it to info(at)copperfieldreview(dot)com according to our above guidelines. We would like to receive submissions that were previously published in The Copperfield Review, though we're open to all submissions for this special edition. We would also like to include some general fiction stories, reviews, and essays, so send in your work! Be sure the words "Anniversary Edition Submission" appear in the subject heading of your e-mail. Anniversary submissions will be accepted until November 30, 2010. Authors can expect to hear from us regarding the status of their submissions within 6-8 weeks. Please notify us immediately if you need to remove a submission for any reason. We look forward to hearing from you.
